Seat and sign to mark Lambton’s 150 years

When pandemic restrictions led to an eleventh hour cancellation of Lambton’s 150 year celebrations in June last year the organising committee quickly met to plan how best to use the remaining funds as a lasting momento to the suburb’s rich history.

During the lead up week a number of well-attended community and cultural events were held but unfortunately the Sunday event in Lambton Park could not proceed due to the public health orders announced less than 24 hours prior.

The funds were instead applied to some recently installed custom-designed park seating and a table as well as signage to mark the 150 years.

“It is important that we acknowledge and celebrate such an historic suburb and its residents of yesteryear and today, and now we have a landmark for the future.”  committee chair and former City of Newcastle, ward 3 councillor Andrea Rufo OAM told The Local.

“None of the celebrations, or this seating and signage would have been possible without the financial support of the major sponsor City of Newcastle. Other generous sponsors including GWH Build, The Local, Piggott’s Pharmacy, Coates Hire, Di Prinzio Concrete and Lambton Park Hotel, Elders Real Estate Newcastle & Lake Macquarie and McGrath Real Estate Agents New Lambton.

Mr Rufo also added his sincere thanks to local partners including Newcastle Theatre Company and Lizotte’s for their support, their energy and their expertise.
