Federal Member for Newcastle Sharon Claydon recently opened new general learning areas and a learning hub at St Therese’s Primary School at New Lambton which will improve student educational outcomes.
Ms Claydon said work on the development project was delivered with support of Australian Government funding of $3,263,091 through the Capital Grants Program.
The project saw the building of: nine new classrooms for infants students (Kindergarten to Year 2), a state-of-the-art Catherine McAuley Centre which houses the library, breakout learning spaces and podcast room, refurbishment of the Fr Walsh Hall, renovation of the Mother Cyril room to build an industrial canteen, building of two new students blocks, a paved outdoor learning space, redevelopment of new outdoor play spaces, including returfing the back field, yarning circle, sandpit and outdoor play gyms.
“These new facilities will provide students, teachers, and staff at St Therese’s Primary School with better, more modern spaces in which to work, teach and learn” Ms Claydon said.
“The Australian Government is committed to providing all schools with appropriate funding so that all students, including those in St Therese’s Primary School, New Lambton, get the best possible education.”
Ms Claydon said the new facilities would benefit the students currently at St Therese’s Primary School, as well as the many students who will follow in future years.
“The students, teachers, and staff at St Therese’s Primary School have built a strong and positive school community and these new facilities will further enhance our local educational opportunities,” Ms Claydon said.
“Our Government strongly believes in providing the best possible resources so that local students can realise their potential and develop the skills they need to go on to further study or to find a job.”
