When two teachers from New Lambton South Public School combined their ideas to create a kids YouTube channel promoting fun, healthy and active lifestyles for kids and young families, Active Adventures was born.
After 28 episodes and with more than 10,000 views to date, Travis and Brendan (pictured above in blue and pink shirts respectively) continue to entertain and inspire.
Travis explains it best when he says, “Active Adventures is a YouTube channel Brendan and I created to inspire kids to try new sports and develop new passions, interests and hobbies.
“The premise of each episode is that we are either taught a sport by a ‘child-superstar’ or engage in an activity that kids and families can recreate and engage in together.”
With episodes filmed at familiar locations, the pair have explored the playgrounds of Speers Point and Croudace Bay, hiked and mountain-biked through Glenrock State Forest, played frisbee golf at Jesmond Park, visited Newcastle Parkour and received sports coaching for episodes from former students who represent the Newcastle Falcons, Merewether Junior Cricket Club, Petite Stars Dance Academy and Souths Netball Club.
“Who the viewers see on ‘Active Adventures’, in Trav and Brendan, is very much who we are in life,” states Travis.
“We are both kids at heart. We love to laugh, have fun and care about making a difference in the lives of others.”
“In every episode, we just want to model to kids that you don’t have to be scared or anxious about trying something new. You can just do it and enjoy the experience for what it is.”
“It’s about being open minded and willing to have a go at anything,” adds Brendan.
“With my class at school, I’m very much a goofy, fun and loud person and I always get up and give everything a go.
“I want to model to the kids that it’s not about being the best at something but giving something your best.”
Within each episode, Travis and Brendan accomplish exactly that.
The pair routinely embrace new experiences, with their unique style of comedic effect, and are always ready for their next… Active Adventure.
